MYSTERY CORNER
A MYSTERY POSTER

Mystery poster

This poster has on it everything the would-be patron needed to know – the place, the week, the films, the ‘turns’, the times and the prices. The Resident Manager is A. Langlands, and the Advertising & Stage Manager is D. Gilmour. Even the year is supplied. BUT there is no address or town. Most posters have the printer’s name on them: not this one. Does anyone recognise the bill-head? If so, please let us know.

Of course, it may not be in Britain. It was part of Teddy Stream’s collection –he saved all his bills over a 40-year career– but not all survived, and he did at least one overseas tour – to S. Africa.

I have a website dedicated to the area that I grew up in. Levenshulme, Manchester, UK. I am trying to find information on a cinema that was supposed to exist there prior to 1921. It was apparently called ” The Savoy Picture Hall”. Any help on this mystery cinema would be most appreciated

All I have is this short entry in the Gazetteer, so if you can add anything from the local newspaper or elsewhere I’d be grateful -

SAVOY PICTURE HALL Levenshulme Opened 1913/14. Closed 1920/21.

Thanks for your reply. The information is the same as I have! Where did you obtain it? My website:- http://www.levyboy.com has more information on the Levenshulme, Manchester cinemas. You are very welcome to use any of this information or create a link to my website. Best wishes, George Nixon
