Gallery- May 2005

Whilst we have nominally moved to a bi-monthly gallery in order to reflect more realisically the level of contributions, Society Administrator Mervyn "sparks" Gould has dipped into his collection of Box Office Cards to produce a small featurette of one-night-only stage shows at the Boston Regal dating from 1964, when he was #2 Lime Boy (& probably still a schoolboy). He has also provided some further emphemera for our enjoyment.

(Lime Boys worked the follow-spots. The term No. 2 Lime boy reflects the pecking order in the heirarchy, not the capability of the Operator!)

Left: View of Horn behind screen. Note the inclination of the screen to minimise keystone shaping of the picture due to projection from the back of the Circle

Below: Babes in the Wood was the opening show of the Regal after the new stage was built, opening on Boxing Day 1963. The programme cover is shewn above, and the photo is of the dress rehearsal. It's the opening scene - The Village of Upper Gumtree - with centre stage the Prinicipal Boy (unusually a man) Booby Rich, and the Principal Girl Suzanne Parsons. The orchestra was two baby grands, organ and drums - m.d. Sadie Conway on 1st piano.
