GALLERY- November 2006

This month we feature a set of photographs from long-standing Society member Tony Duggan who has taken his camera to the Somerset town of Burnham of Sea in order to visit the The Ritz, currently undergoing something of a renaissance.

The Ritz opened on Monday the 13th July 1936 and celebrated its 70th birthday this summer, exactly 70 years later. The Cinema also has it's own website here, from which the following paragraph is quoted:

Roll out the red carpet, pop open the champagne and drive out in the limo as The Ritz cinema in Burnham officially re-opens on Friday 24 September, 2004.

After a £130,000 refurbishment, the cinema now boasts two screens with the latest projection equipment, a 45ft scope picture, and digital sound.

The cinema's original art deco fitting and decoration has also been restored, complete with plush new seating and computerised booking system.
