GALLERY- November 2006

This month we feature a set of photographs from long-standing Society member Tony Duggan who has taken his camera to the Somerset town of Burnham of Sea in order to visit the The Ritz, currently undergoing something of a renaissance.

The Ritz opened on Monday the 13th July 1936 and celebrated its 70th birthday this summer, exactly 70 years later. A small historic article (with some linking pages about the birthday and earlier re-opening) can be found on the Burnham on Sea.com website here. The Cinema also has it's own website here, from which the following paragraph is quoted:

Roll out the red carpet, pop open the champagne and drive out in the limo as The Ritz cinema in Burnham officially re-opens on Friday 24 September, 2004.

After a £130,000 refurbishment, the cinema now boasts two screens with the latest projection equipment, a 45ft scope picture, and digital sound.

The cinema's original art deco fitting and decoration has also been restored, complete with plush new seating and computerised booking system.
