Starting in Halifax, .the first shot is the former Theatre
Royal, now a nightclub. |
The dressing room block is stage left, towards the rear of
the site. |
.The stage back wall. The lantern can be seen on the roof,
unusually running upstage/downstage. (Haystack lanterns are generally 1/9th
of the stage area although rules vary). |
.The Coliseum night club, originally the Picture House and
also a Gaumont. |
.Diagonally opposite the Coliseum is the former ABC, now Jumping
Jacks. |
The former ABC facade viewed from Commercial Street. |
The third building for entertainment on this major junction
is the Victoria Theatre, formerly the Victoria Concert hall. |
Side view of the Victoria from the direction of Cow Green. |
This is the stage end, the Stage Door is in the lane running
behind the building. There is an unusual Lantern above the platform due
to the subsequent conversion to full stage use. There is considerable height
in the auditorium hence the otherwise unbroken roof line. |
The former Odeon, now a Mecca Bingo Hall. This is the screen end and the
horn alcove can be seen behind the lampposts. |
.A closer view of the Odeon facade from the opposite end of Commercial
Street to the ABC. |
Returning to Morley, the New Pavilion is getting a facelift. The interior
is being improved and the derelict shops are going to be converted into
an integrated Cafe/Bar. |
The exterior scaffolding has is presumably for remedial work to the facade
and roof. |
The signage above the former shops has now been removed, revealing the
original Burmantofts Terracotta stonework. |
Closer detail. Note the obligatory H&S Building Site notice. The days
of being a Techno Club as "Orbit" and "After Dark" are
over, it would seem that it is being positioned as a more upmarket club. |
.The shop doorway is in temporary use for builders access although walls
are being removed internally to link the spaces coherently. It will open
at some stage in March, although no publicity has been distributed in the
Town yet. |
The facade with the scaffolding down in late February. |
The window frames in place, temporarily boarded to keep the scratters
out. |
