GALLERY- June 2004This months gallery shows photos of the Wimbledon Odeon taken on the last night by Member Tony Dugan. It originally opened as the 2000 seater Regal in November 1935 and the architect was Robert Cromie. It became a Gaumont in 1949 and Odeon in 1962. The building was tripled in 1972, the Mini-cinemas enlarged in 1979 and a further two screens added in 1999 using the front stalls and cafe areas with a seating capacity of 1343 across the five screens.. It was demolished during the Summer of 2003 and Wimbledon is now served by a 12 screen Odeon Multiplex seating 2,781. A huge banner on the facade proclaims "BECAUSE (Details from Odeon Cinemas by Allan Eyles)
